The Position As the Senior Manager of Strategic Market Intelligence the functional responsibilities include leading analyses of competitors and other healthcare players, monitoring and reporting on key external events and participating in other strategic projects as directed and set by Director, Market Intelligence and Strategic Planning and key stakeholders across Novo Nordisk; and exerting influence to ensure goals and objectives of the department are met. The Senior Manager Strategic Market Intelligence leads and supports the discovery, consolidation and communication of key insights, opportunities, threats and implications related to Novo Nordisk's external environment and provides strategic, evidence-based recommendations in support of decision-making to Executive Team, other leadership teams including the Enterprise. Relationships This position reports to the Director, Strategic Market Intelligence. Collaborates closely with Enterprise Strategy and the Future Business Strategy leadership teams, Commercial Insight & Analytics, Finance, Global Competitive Intelligence and New Product Planning teams, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Market Access and works collaboratively with other Market Intelligence team members. Supports benchmarking and landscape projects in support of enterprise strategy and future therapeutic areas such as Cardiovascular and MCI. Serves as the key point of contact with Commercial Insights and Analytics for the Future Business Strategy needs and initiatives. Develops clinical intelligence monitoring and landscape assessment in support of the future disease areas and communicates verified, information back to the Executive Team and other leadership teams (as relevant), with specific dissemination determined by intelligence confidence, security and appropriateness. External relationships include interactions with professional services vendors. Facilitates collaboration among necessary Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI) and global stakeholders and engages in continuous communication to ensure effective stakeholder management. May give direction to junior team members, interns and/or contingent workers. External relationships include interactions with professional services vendors. Essential Functions

• Develop and sustain close working relationships with key stakeholders, across Future Business Strategy, Enterprise Strategy, Clinical Medical Regulatory (CMR), Global New Product Planning, and other relevant global departments; Build diverse internal and external network for primary intelligence gathering and cross-validation
• Develop presentations with clear storylines to communicate key conclusions and recommendations. Effectively communicate timely critical information to a broad range of stakeholders
• Manage the gathering of information from a variety of internal and external sources regarding competitors' clinical strategy, go to market strategies, financial results, targeted markets, merger & acquisition activities, partnerships, and product development. Develops predictive landscape assessments and performs other ad hoc analyses to proactively address issues in support of business objectives, mitigate decision risk, drive action plan development and ultimately improve commercial planning
• Independently provides actionable recommendations based on a) thorough analysis of internal and external business issues and environmental factors b) careful assessment of available data and determination of knowledge gaps c) translating data into trends with estimated business impact; proactively translates business challenges into research briefings and analysis
• Leads development of assigned market intelligence plans in conjunction with the MI Director, and incorporate needs and opportunity assessments with stakeholders
• Leverages broad decision-influence role to provide strategic, insight-driven recommendations to influence long term investments for NAO, benchmarks industry capabilities to ensure learnings are incorporated in NNI investment decisions and business model evolutions. Leverage primary and secondary data and information sources, financial intelligence and analytics to enhance launch preparedness, increase forecast accuracy, guide business development and partnership opportunities, monitors and analyses the external landscape in support of existing and new disease areas and acts as the advisor for the new product planning and strategic projects
• Collaborate with Commercial Insights and Analytics to ensure complete and consistent communications
• Identify critical knowledge gaps and develop new capabilities to address the evolving market such as digital health and healthcare trends impacting the operating model across the industry
• Ensure concise synthesis of research findings, communicated in the context of decision drivers and key business decisions that are tailored to specific audiences
• Plan and lead intelligence efforts at key scientific conferences in collaboration with the MI team members
• Design and execute relevant market research projects in support of new therapeutic areas and strategic initiatives
• Ensure self and others follow formal protocols and policies for the collection, assessment, classification, storage, and dissemination of competitive information in accordance with SCIP and Novo Nordisk's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
• Identify and evaluate vendors for Market Intelligence research; establishes and manages research projects in alignment with internal stakeholder needs within budget
• Influence commercial planning and strategy development by acting as a strategic advisor through impactful presentation of competitor information
• Ensure the most relevant US market assessments are communicated to global in support of the forecasting process
• Provide relevant input to the ongoing budget planning process (AB/RE)
• Provide rigorous assessment of the accuracy, validity and reliability of gathered information
• Manage the creation and maintenance of CI tracking systems, repositories and supports establishment of an (IT) infrastructure to help facilitate knowledge sharing across Medical and Scientific Affairs, as well as other CMR and commercial functions
• Champion the Triple Bottom Line in Competitive Intelligence and internal strategy consulting
• Develop innovative solutions to unstructured, complex problems; make recommendations that have a significant impact on company (time, people, budget) resources and potentially affect the company's ability to achieve its goals
• Pro-actively seek process improvement opportunities by challenging existing processes, proposing solutions, driving approved implementation plan to advance team capabilities and improve internal efficiencies
• Strive to maintain awareness of 'best practices' in competitive intelligence across industries by maintaining a current familiarity with data sources, trends, techniques, agencies Physical Requirements Approximately 10-20% overnight travel. Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a science/business discipline.
  • Master or other advance degree is preferred
  • A minimum of six (6) years' related experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry (and/or relevant Consulting or Finance healthcare intelligence experience)--is required
  • A minimum of four ( 4) years' in a business analysis or similar environment is preferred
  • Solid experience drawing commercial implications from clinical results is preferred
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines is required
  • Ability to influence people and facilitate cooperation of internal and external partners for both intelligence acquisition and recommendation acceptance is required--
  • Proven ability to structure and present qualitative data in a compelling and convincing fashion; strong writing, presentation, and project management skills is required--
  • Proven analytical and strategic thinking and capabilities required
  • Excellent critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills are required--
  • Strong understanding of the intelligence cycle, especially collection, assessment, and management of primary data is required
  • Networking - positively interacts with any relevant source of information. Builds strong relationships
  • Proficient and comfortable with searching and reviewing scientific literature, clinical trial data, journal studies Progressive demonstrated business experience, preferably with a background in securities research and/or in a strategic consulting capacity with prior competitive intelligence and market research experience preferred
  • Proven search and research skills including experience with the use of online databases (scientific, business, patent, etc) is preferred
  • Strong understanding of drug development, commercialization, and lifecycle management is preferred
