specialty branded market with a focus on dermatology, ophthalmology
and onco-dermatology. Job Summary: The Tax Manager, Finance ensures
that Sun’s US companies meet their federal, state and local tax
reporting obligations. The Tax Manager liaises with external
advisors to prepare U.S. tax returns and with tax authorities to
resolve questions and audit controversy. The Tax Manager has
primary responsibility for understanding and reporting income and
sales taxes related to our Proactiv® business. The Tax Manager is
the primary liaison with Accounting to provide tax-related entries
including current and deferred tax expense. A successful candidate
must be able to work autonomously and collaborate effectively with
a New York-based manager. A successful candidate should also be
willing to grow and expand from the initial job description.
Responsibilities: Tax return compliance – prepare annual tax return
workpapers and liaise with external advisors to prepare and file
corporate income tax returns. Calculate estimated tax payments.
Prepare and file monthly state & local returns such as gross
revenue taxes. (20%) Indirect tax compliance – calculate and file
NJ and NY use tax returns. Review and approve Proactiv® automated
sales tax filings in the US and Canada and supplement with input
tax credits and transactions subject to use tax. (10%) Audit
controversy – answer IDRs and participate in meetings with tax
auditors, appeals hearings and litigation. (10% but varies
depending on audit activity) Tax planning – generate ideas and
research strategies for reducing the company’s direct and indirect
taxes. Support reorganizations of the US company structure,
participate in meetings and calls. Calculate potential savings and
create management presentations. (10%) Transfer pricing – review
schedules prepared by Accounting to ensure correct intercompany
pricing is followed by each company. Update the group’s transfer
pricing documentation (functional analysis section) annually.
Review comparable searches prepared by external advisors. Draft
and/or review intercompany agreements. Forecast the impact of
various transfer pricing scenarios. (5%) Tax correspondence –
Respond to inquiries and correspondence from tax authorities. (10%)
Tax provision preparation – calculate the group’s quarterly current
& deferred tax. Work with tax advisors and respond to external
financial statements auditor questions. (10%) Legal support –
perform tax review of third-party contracts. (5%) Internal business
unit support – answer ad hoc tax questions, review sales tax
exemptions, residency certification requests. (10%) Tariffs –
review customs codes and rates, participate in planning. (10% but
varies depending on tariff announcements) Requirements: Bachelor
degree required CPA and/or MST preferred At least 3 years
professional experience Knowledge of the following areas: US sales
tax Tax accounting/tax provisions A tax generalist’s background is
helpful Familiarity with the pharmaceutical industry a plus
Familiarity with Canada GST/HST helpful but not required The
presently-anticipated base compensation pay range for this position
is $94,000 to $115,000. Actual base compensation may vary based on
a number of factors, including but not limited to geographical
location and experience. In addition, this position is part of the
Annual Performance Bonus Plan. Employees are eligible to
