Meet the team: Our lidar team has a decade of history in delivering Geiger-mode products for other industries, and we are optimizing these technologies for automotive-oriented mass production. Our design is novel from a technical standpoint and offers performance essential to scaling the deployment of driverless cars. Optics Engineers at Argo AI will be responsible for research, design, development, test qualification, and deployment of optical systems for Argo AI sensing products. What you'll do:--

  • Plan and execute tests to verify and characterize the performance of optical systems
  • Work with contract manufacturers to evaluate optical designs, critical design reviews, including tolerance studies, risk assessments, cost optimization, reliability plans, etc.
  • Document design analysis, test plans, and test reports
  • Contribute to development of integration, testing, and validation of Argo Lidar What you'll need to succeed:
    • Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related field--
    • Experience with optical systems simulation software (Zemax, FRED, CodeV, TracePro, etc.)
    • Experience designing optical parts and assemblies including ray tracing, mechanical design, 2D drawing GD&T, manufacturing specifications, stray light analysis
    • Ability to perform sensitivity analysis, tolerance studies, write scripts to automate data export and data processing in Zemax, Matlab, Python, or similar
    • Experience working with contract manufacturers
    • Experience working with complex electromechanical systems including bring up, testing, and manufacturing. Familiar with lens test instruments and methods
    • Strong experience developing design requirements, conducting trade studies, developing prototype designs, executing design analysis / simulation, integrating prototypes, conducting verification / validation testing, debugging design failures, and deploying designs to mass production
    • Quantitative / analytical mindset to probe, test and decompose challenging system problems into root cause issues with strong, detail oriented skills to solve them
    • A record of owning projects successfully and working in a fast paced environment
    • We operate as a team, so good teamwork and communication skills are essential Nice to haves:
      • Experience with 3D design tools such as SolidWorks, Catia, NX, Creo or other CAD tools
      • Prefer candidates with experience in functional testing, reliability testing, and qualification of systems
      • Prefer candidates with experience in design for quick iteration prototyping and designing for large volume automated manufacturing
      • Prefer candidates with some familiarity in cross functional design such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, thermal engineering, or other domains
