R&D Associate Engineer

Job Description Position Summary: This position is primarily responsible for supporting the R&D Engineering team with driving open projects to completion. This engineer will be responsible for assisting with: documenting new processes, creating technical drawings, and training individuals on newly developed processes. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer to learn to be technically creative and gain exposure to a highly desired consumer product segment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Research and Development

  • Assist R&D Engineering team with creating and executing product enhancement, next generation, and new product development plans as needed
  • Work with R&D Engineering team to learn about the core product offerings and manufacturing processes
  • Work with the prototyping team and R&D Engineers to help build and test new product prototypes
  • Assist R&D Engineers with documenting new processes and experimental results
  • Help support new product development transition to manufacturing as needed including but not limited to:
    • Assisting with the development of work instructions
    • Training and supervising manufacturing operators to carry out work instructions
    • Supporting operations to conduct quality testing to qualify new products
    • Support R&D Engineers with quality and functional testing of new builds and products
      Process Improvement
      • Assist R&D Engineers with development and documentation for industrializing new processing techniques
      • Support R&D Engineers with qualification of new materials or components for existing products
        Other Important Responsibilities:
        • Ability to understand task priority to ensure most critical processes impacting business results are being addressed
        • Willingness to support thorough documentation of all product development activities as well as existing and new process development, inclusive of progressive results, specific equipment parameters and work instructions where appropriate
        • Willingness to learn from the experience of the R&D team and grow to take on more responsibilities as needed
        • Will be required to perform other job functions, as assigned
          Required Skills and Competencies:
          • Associates degree required
          • Minimum 2 years of experience required
          • Firm grasp of engineering concepts and interest in product design
          • Excellent math skills, ability to apply advance mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems
          • Mechanically Inclined/Mechanical Aptitude
          • Basic CAD Skills, such as SolidWorks, AutoCad or similar
          • Self-Starter
          • Ability to relate to employees and understand their needs
          • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
          • Strong attention to detail and ability to self-check own work
          • Excellent time management skills
          • Task oriented excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize work load
          • Enthusiastic attitude, cooperative team player, adaptable to new or changing circumstances, professional demeanor, sensitive to client needs, self-motivated, creative and innovative
          • Excellent problem-solving skills
          • Ability to multi-task initiatives and switch focus between multiple projects as needed
          • Ability to work well in a team setting
          • High level of computer literacy including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Outlook
            Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
            • Prior new product development experience
            • Involvement with invention disclosure or patent preparation
            • Strong CAD skills including 3D modeling
            • 3D Printing Experience
            • Basic circuit design experience
            • Coding/Programming Experience Java, Flash, Android
            • Basic electrical engineering experience
            • Basic Project Management/Project Execution Experience
            • Materials and Material Science Experience
