Summary:The Failure Analysis (FA) Engineering Technician will be proficient in assisting the Engineering and Reliability teams with the systematic root cause analysis of production, customer and qualification program failures. The Failure Analysis (FA) Engineering Technician drives the preventative maintenance activities to maximize equipment uptime and ensures tool calibration. The Failure Analysis (FA) Engineering Technician will assist FA engineers with daily activities supporting production, customer returns by performing analysis of failed samples and contribute to root cause and corrective action reports. Failure Analysis Engineering Technician Principle Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe statements below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work in this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. The position may require that employees perform other duties as assigned.

  • The primary responsibility of the Failure Analysis (FA) Engineering Technician is to support failure analysis engineers' activities, which include the following: Visual Inspection, X-ray, C-SAM, LIV curve trace, de-capsulation (mechanical, manual, and laser), disassembly, desoldering, potting, dicing, mechanical cross-section and parallel lapping/polishing, additional duties as assigned.
  • Diagnose failure locations on product by following a failure analysis flowchart.
  • Maintain sample integrity at each analysis step to assist failure analysis engineer to determine root cause and corrective actions of production, field, and qualification tests.
  • Coordinate failure analysis activities with both internal and external labs to provide analytical results.
  • The Failure Analysis (FA) Engineering Technician is Accountable for sample tracking and archiving.
  • Must be able to use and analyze data using software packages like Microsoft Office, JMP and SAP.
  • Apply basic cross-sectioning sample preparation techniques such as potting samples, grinding and polishing, setup, acquisition and interpretation of SAM imaging and taking pictures using a SEM/EDAX machine minimal supervision or guidance.Failure Analysis Engineering Technician EducationAssociates or Bachelors degree with major in engineering or the sciences.3+ years of experience, preferably in a failure analysis lab environmentMust be able to read/interpret Technical drawings, have basic knowledge of quality evaluation tools Must be proficient with MS Office programs, SAPAbility to organize information and clearly communicate is a must.Ability to handle multiple projects with changing/ competing priorities is requiredTRUMPF is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
