OverviewThis is a dynamic role in a fast-growing company pioneering a strategic collaboration-based business model for advancing high-impact therapeutic device solutions to the market. The role will involve helping senior leadership establish a highly effective methodology and practice for engaging potential strategic partners to support late-stage product development and commercialization under long-term risk-reward sharing partnership structures.
Key Role ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Business Development will be responsible for helping:
Drive new strategic partnerships

  • Identify prospective partners and assess their product pipeline needs, target innovation priorities as well as internal R&D programs that are not adequately funded
  • Develop and articulate outsourced R&D partnership value propositions and messages
  • Help create presentation materials, supporting analyses, and financial models to support strategic partnering
  • Conduct outreach and engage prospective partners
  • Define strategic partnership goals and objectives
  • Help negotiate and execute agreements
  • Foster and manage relationships with key counterparts at existing and prospective strategic partners
    Identify opportunities for potential acquisition or value-added investment
    • Cultivate a pipeline of potential acquisition opportunities through thoughtful, systematic engagement with physician innovators, entrepreneurs, venture capital groups, strategic investment arms, and other medical innovation ecosystem participants
    • Attend industry and medical conferences to support opportunity sourcing
    • Refine and help organization implement key screening and prioritization criteria
    • Help create presentation materials to articulate the value proposition to target projects
    • Help negotiate and execute acquisition and value-added investment agreements
      Required skills
      • Strong track record of executing strategic partnerships as well as M&A and investment transactions
      • Strong understanding of financial modeling, including full P&L and DCF models
      • Strong communication skills and comfort presenting in front of company management, Board, and speaking directly with partner executives, entrepreneurs, physicians, and other key opinion leaders
      • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
      • A proven track record of working with and managing teams or relevant leadership skills that demonstrate an ability to do so successfully
      • Transactional & relationship management experience within an investment banking or professional services firm. M&A, strategic partnership and financing advisory experience from working in an investment bank and management consulting firm focus on the medical technology industry and established industry relationships are desirable for this role.
      • Transactional & relationship management experience within an operating company. Business/corporate development team experience inside of a large/mid-size medical technology company and established relationships within the medical technology industry is a plus for this role.
        Preferred Skills
        • Passion for medical technology transactions: minimum 5-7 years of relevant industry experience
        • Successful track record working on medical technology transactions, specifically, in M&A, strategic partnerships, and financings
        • Strong academic track record; MBA from top tier institution preferred; an advanced degree in life sciences is also a plus Reports to: Chairman & CEO
