SUMMARY OF POSITION:The role of the Director of Technology is multi-faceted and is best suited to a person who enjoys working business challenges as much as technical problems. This role has direct reports, covering system support as well as system development, therefore leadership, performance management and recruitment of this team is a critical requirement of the role. In addition, this role also acts as technical adviser/consultant to the ELS leadership group and ensures that any IT plans and IT spending is in line with the overall business plan. This includes assisting in developing an annual business plan to incorporate ELS' business objectives to meet market and company needs, and adopt to changing demands from both internal and external circumstances and influences.Lastly, this role is suitable for someone who can introduce IT system changes, incorporating cloud services where appropriate and reducing the footprint of legacy and outdated software. The Director of Technology is responsible for all IT systems at ELS and functions as the key IT leader within the group. As such this position will not only provide leadership and strategic alignment but also serve as key business partner to global support manager, US infrastructure manager and others IT leaders within the ELS and Berlitz brand of companies.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Functions as key point of contact related to all IT matters across all ELS platformsManages a team of developers and IT support staff and responsible for their performanceDevelops IT plan and manages IT projects within ELSResponsible for the uptime and redundancy of all core systemsAbility to drive technology changes with the opportunity to replace legacy with new servicesIdentifies opportunities to drive efficiency and quality standards in the organization and makes recommendations on process improvement and development needsDevelops deep understanding of internal demand and student expectations and improves the customer journeyTests and implements new features for internal and external customersWork closely with Berlitz Global IT to ensure compliance to overall IT and Security policiesCollaborates with external vendors; monitors and evaluates vendor performanceQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:3-5 years of experience in an IT leadership positionExperience with managing an IT support function in particular related to custom in-house legacy platforms.Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) across web applications, backend systems and DatabasesTechnical knowledge of .NET, Oracle, and/or Salesforce is preferredProject management and vendor management experienceAbility to build relationships with key business stakeholders and manage stakeholder expectationsStrong communication skills with the ability to disseminate deep technical information to non-technical stakeholdersCOMPETENCIES:Demonstrated interpersonal skills including, mentoring, coaching, presentation skills and the ability to interact with colleagues at all technical levelsDynamic, energetic, motivated, positive outlook with the ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilitiesAbility to communicate with and understand the requirements of professional staff in area of specialty and communicate these requirements to technical staffStrong technical background, ideally within software deployment, development and integrationPrevious experienced with transformation and process improvementSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITITES: Position will manage some direct and indirect reports related to system development, administration, and support.TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objectsWORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office environment.
