The VP, New Business and Solutions Development is a new role for Brother International and is intended to be a key member of Brother International's executive team. This individual will work with the team to develop strategies to expand and evolve our business focused on building the business of the future. As we look toward the future, the VP, New Business and Solutions Development will need to be the central driver for charting our course and help to set the vision and strategy to grow our company's business.

The successful candidate's responsibilities will include identifying, evaluating and driving strategies for new products and services; new channels; geographic expansion; strategic partnerships and potential acquisitions - with the purpose of expanding/fortifying Brother's portfolio of innovative solutions. This
position will support the development of products and services across multiple business areas, including business machines, sewing, embroidery, crafting, garment printing, gear motors, mobile solutions and any new business areas and identify potential portfolio expansion opportunities into business areas adjacent to those listed. The VP, New Business and Solutions Development will work closely with Brother's executive leadership in the Americas and in Japan, as well as the appropriate external parties to drive innovative solutions.

We are looking for a dynamic and resilient business strategist and leader who is comfortable dealing with uncertainty and complexity, engaging talent, and promoting trust and confidence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Existing Business Category Expansion

  • Identify and develop strategic opportunities for our business in the categories we know best
  • Evaluate and recommend business portfolio frameworks, strategies, financial concepts, practices, programs, processes, and measures to be applied across the business
  • Actively partner with business leaders to ensure a mutual understanding of competitors, industry intelligence, program effectiveness, consumer knowledge, and the resulting development of strategic initiatives
  • Partner with sales teams to realize growth strategies that support the continued improvement of the business's overall performance; execute and administer the strategies agreed upon with the appropriate teams
  • Identify strategic and logical extensions of Brother's current core competencies by assessing the market, technology, and economic trends
  • Actively partner with business leaders to help develop short and long-term business unit strategies that are meant to develop and capitalize on business opportunities for an existing business, including moving beyond hardware and using solutions and new business models to generate new business New Business Category Development
    • Identify and develop strategic opportunities for our business in new categories - outside of the categories that we know best to increase our business revenues and evolve and nurture the growth of the organization
    • Work closely with business leaders, executives, and stakeholders in the Americas and Japan to educate them on the new categories and use superior business acumen and vision to attempt to influence them to support moving forward with proposed new business categories Leadership, Collaboration & Corporate Strategy
      • Lead the Company in launching high-priority and broad-reaching strategic initiatives, gaining alignment, and working directly with the business's leadership, executives, and stakeholders in the Americas and Japan
      • Serve as a creative and innovative leader as well as a broad business and thought leader
      • Challenge the status quo, bringing forward new ideas and driving the development of winning new business and solutions strategies for the company as a member of the executive leadership team
      • Collaborate across the organization with top leadership, aiding in individualized strategy formulation for different projects and initiatives
      • Establish collaborative and trusting relationships with the business' key internal leaders and stakeholders to ensure that there is a free flow of ideas and information across the business, leading to suitable strategy formulation and overall business performance enhancement
      • Develop teams with the expertise to own business case development, term sheet negotiations, due diligence, and execution of approved transactions
      • Develop and drive a human capital management strategy, building business and solutions development skills and capabilities needed for success, as well as infuse the organization with stronger competencies and leadership skills delivered by a diverse and inclusive team
      • Create and execute short, mid-and long-term plans developed with clear milestones aligned to the business objectives
      • Maintain operational excellence while creating a more efficient, agile, and effective operational model that considers and leverages the best available resources, both internal and external, to the corporation
      • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, transparency, innovation, entrepreneurship, and overall excellence within the new business and solutions development organization Requirements

        Education

        Bachelor's Degree in Business administration, Finance or related field (or equivalent experience)

        Master's Degree in Business administration, Finance or related field is preferred

        Experience
        • 15 -20+ years working in strategic planning and analysis, marketing/market research, competitive intelligence, and corporate business development, ideally in electronic products in the business-to-business and business-to-consumer spaces
          • Generating new business outlooks on the market through trend forecasting, experiential marketing, innovation, and execution
          • Prior background functioning as a Strategy Consultant in developing new businesses and markets is also preferred Other Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
            • Strong financial analytical skills and overall business acumen abilities with a proven and successful track record of developing and driving growth initiatives and identifying business opportunities in order to develop strategies that capitalize on those opportunities
            • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to make sound business judgments based on the business's risk parameters in order to determine implications for the business and implement measures for mitigation
            • Dynamic leadership abilities with a history of developing effective and proficient teams capable of operating at a high level to drive organization growth
            • Skilled strategic thinker with outstanding business instincts who can help chart the course and translate into actionable, value-creating results; outstanding communication skills to translate R&D innovation into actionable, value-creating partnerships while developing compelling business cases that influence others to support a path forward
            • Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills, and ability to prepare and give effective presentations to groups at all levels Brother Offers

                This role will be a hybrid role. Subject to business needs, employees may work remotely up to two days per week. Assigned office days will be determined by managers.
