- Monitor and inspect the work of contractors to ensure proper
construction methods are utilized; maintain compliance with plans,
specifications, schedules; and federal, state, and Port
regulations.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation and controls
including inspection logs, daily reports, force accounts, materials
testing, and other construction records for complex and difficult
construction projects. Update design plans/drawings based on
changes that occur during actual construction; document reasons for
change; and ensure drawings are an accurate representation of work
actually performed.
- Conduct a variety of meetings including planning,
preconstruction, coordination, progress, scheduling, safety, and
field staff meetings.
- Resolve disputes and difficult problems and respond to
complaints from the public that require resolution at the Senior
Inspector level.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with consultant
inspectors, consulting engineers, contractors, property owners,
businesses, other Port departments, and the general public
regarding assigned projects.
- Coordinate and communicate complicated construction activities
between contractors, tenants, Port of Seattle personnel and the
general public.
- With the direction from the Resident Engineer, coordinate
complex shutdown requests from contractors with customers, tenants
and Port departments.
- Participate in the development of Construction Management
policies and procedures.
- May provide training guidance and coaching to fellow team
members.
- Perform appropriate constructability reviews that help identify
and anticipate potential problems and opportunities.
- Manage stakeholder requirements for construction projects.
- Monitor Tenant Improvement contractors as directed.
- Prepare, conduct and document weekly meetings, pre-installation
meetings or other meetings with project stakeholders.Knowledge &
Skills:Demonstrated knowledge of applicable building codes and
specifications. Knowledge of federal state, and local regulatory
agencies and related regulations, guidelines and procedures as they
relate to the inspection of major construction projects and
anticipate global/big picture impacts. Thorough knowledge of
acceptable construction methods and techniques. Advanced knowledge
of multiple construction disciplines or specialist in a specific
discipline. Proficiency with computer office applications such as
Microsoft Office. Well-developed communication skills both written
and verbal.Ability to review and provide constructability comments
for designs, plans, and specifications. Ability to establish and
maintain effective working relations with stakeholders. Proven
ability to recognize potential problems and resolve them in a
timely manner or escalate to supervisor/manager for resolution.
Demonstrated ability to interpret complex contract documents and
enforce contract provisions as necessary. Proven ability to
coordinate and communicate construction activities between
contractors, tenants, Port departments and the general public.
Proven ability to exercise sound independent judgment within
