Position Description:
Penn Medicine Princeton Health is seeking a Unit Secretary for full time day shift position in the Surgical Care Unit.

SCU (Surgical Care Unit) is a 36 bed medical-surgical unit with a specialized focus on patients receiving inpatient surgical interventions.

POSITION SUMMARY
--- The Unit Secretary functions as a receptionist, conducts specific clerical duties for the unit and provides administrative support to the Nurse Manager/ Assistant Nurse Manager by coordinating a variety of operational activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supports customer service goals of the University Medical Center at Princeton adhering to the Culture of Excellence Always and collaborates with other staff to enhance patient care and services.
2. Maintains the nurses station in a quiet and orderly manner, and directs visitors as necessary.
3. Maintains a pleasant and professional attitude to patients, visitors, and staff.
4. Transcribes direct admission physician-written orders into the EMR and forward them to RNs review queue
5. Alerts the charge nurse to any order, which require immediate attention.
6. Organizes and maintains the patient charts and follows the chart copying procedure for patients being transferred.
7. Is instrumental in coordinating admissions and transfers and facilitates discharge arrangements by contacting the contracted ambulance provider and adheres to established protocols.
8. Conveys interdepartmental communications and messages within the nursing unit in a timely manner.
9. Answers WestCall System in response to patients' calls on a timely basis.
10. Answers telephone calls and coordinates messages.
11. Maintains standards for confidentiality.
12. Reports to work consistently and on time.
13. Provides/ maintains accurate information in the department log book.
14. Able to order patient care and non-patient care items via Lawson and Office Max and forms from AE Litho
15. Process check requests and invoices for the department and ensure the payment is received in a timely manner.
16. Demonstrates knowledge of department equipment, including printer/fax machines, Getwell, WestCall, Cisco phones, and computer.
17. Place work order service requests via on-line service portals for engineering and IT issues. Notification of Biomed dept of broken equipment such as vital sign machines, IV pumps, bladder scanner, Masimo monitors, and doppler.
18. Accountable for improving patient care through adherence to all patient safety and quality standards, regulations, and best practices.

OTHER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Continually develops clerical expertise through attendance at staff development programs pertinent to job functions.
2. Orients new Unit Secretaries to their duties and responsibilities on the unit.
3. Participates in unit required staff meeting and attends PHCS activities such Town Hall Meetings and CNO chats
4. Attends in-services and education programs to enhance knowledge.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Education
--- High school diploma or equivalent.

Related Work Experience
--- Unit Secretary, Hospital experience
