Research Center (TRC) at BMS is one of the fundamental Research and
Early Development (R&ED) units delivering therapeutics to
patients. Our mission is to create transformative medicines of

expertise in small molecule chemistry, protein biotherapeutics,
cell therapy, protein degradation, nucleic acids, and other

colleagues in clinical and non-clinical development, project
leadership, translational medicine, and informatics to advance
therapies based on a deep understanding of causal human biology.

expertise.Position SummaryBristol-Myers Squibb is seeking a highly
motivated Senior Associate Scientist to join the Discovery Biology
Immunology and In Vivo Pharmacology group at the Immunology and
Cardiovascular Thematic Research Center located in Lawrenceville,
NJ. The qualified candidate will possess the ability to work across
a highly matrixed environment to advance drug discovery programs
and will be responsible for developing and executing in vivo and ex
vivo strategies using a wide range of animal disease models. The
candidate must have hands on expertise in executing rodent models
of disease from in vivo dosing and ex vivo disease end point
analysis. The focus of this position will be the in vivo and ex
vivo evaluation of novel therapeutic agents including large and
small molecules that will support these drug discovery efforts;
additional responsibilities will include identification and
validation of novel disease and target specific biomarkers and
development of new pharmacodynamic endpoints and disease models for
autoimmune indications. The desired candidate will demonstrate
sophisticated scientific thinking and have the enthusiasm and
capacity to rise to challenges. A strong work ethic, good judgement
and ability to work efficiently in a team setting are key qualities
in the successful candidate. The position is a hands-on,
laboratory-based role. The candidate is expected to be able to
plan, design, develop methodologies and execute experiments
according to plans and protocols with appropriate supervision.Key
Responsibilities
- Execute inflammatory or autoimmune animal disease models to
support in vivo pharmacology and biology studies.
- Perform rodent dosing (PO, IP, IV, SC etc.) and tissue
collection for ex vivo analysis.
- Develop, troubleshoot, and execute cellular and immunological
assays with primary immune cells or cell lines.
- Perform techniques including sterile cell culture, multiplex
ELISA, RNA isolation and RT-qPCR. Isolate mononuclear cells from
tissues and phenotype cells and cellular responses using multicolor
flow cytometry.
- Design and execute well-controlled experiments, perform data
analysis, and summarize findings to the team.
- Collaborate alongside a cross-functional team with experts in
immunology and in vivo pharmacology to derive new biological
mechanistic insights and pharmacodynamic / efficacy assessments,
and support programs as they move through pre-clinical
development.
- Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and
organizational skills are required.
- Travel will be less than 5% of the time.Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 4+ years of academic and / or industry experienceOr
- Master's Degree
- 2+ years of academic and / or industry experiencePreferred
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in immunology, biology, biochemistry or
biological science with 4+ years or Master's degree with 2+ years
of relevant industry / academic experience.
- Research experience in executing inflammatory or autoimmune
disease models is a must.
- Hands on experience in dosing rodents (PO, IP, IV, SC etc.) and
tissue collection is a must.
- Experience in primary human and mouse immune cell isolation,
propagation and immune cell-based functional assays is required
(e.g. T cells, B cells, myeloid cells, co-culture assays and other
primary cell assays) is desirable
- Hands on experience with a wide range of in vitro cellular and
biochemical assays, including western blotting,
immunoprecipitation, ELISAs, reporter assays etc. is desirable
- Experience in flow cytometric analysis, measurement of cell
surface receptors and phosphoproteins by multicolor FACS across
different platforms is desirable
- Proficiency in scientific computer programs including Microsoft
Excel, GraphPad Prism, and FlowJo.
- Must be able to design and conduct experiments based on
protocols, trouble-shooting outcomes and adaptively designing
follow-up experiments with minimal supervision.
- Possess a high level of critical thinking, high energy,
independence, a strong desire to learn new techniques, and the
ability to work in a highly dynamic research organization.
- The successful candidate will have clear and concise verbal and
written communication skills and be able to give scientific
presentations to diverse audiences.
- Meticulous record keeping, and strong organizational skills
with exceptional attention to detail are must-have requirements.Why
