The Position Responsible for providing legal support to the NA Privacy Program, as well as counsel and advise Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI) and other NA affiliates on all matters relating privacy, data protection and security regulations. Relationships Reports to Chief Counsel - Legal Strategy, Operations and Corporate Transactions. Interacts with NA Privacy Team, as well as all attorneys in the Legal Department. Also interacts with individuals in other NNI departments and affiliate companies as well as outside law firms. Essential Functions * Act as the company's privacy legal expert with knowledge of applicable state, federal and international laws and regulations, including the FTC Act, CAN-SPAM, HIPAA/HITECH, CCPA/CPRA and related medical information privacy laws, laws and regulations related to employee privacy, and other global laws and regulations including those implementing the GDPR; partner with other attorneys in the department to coordinate legal guidance * Partners with NA Privacy Office to advise on the legal and regulatory privacy and cybersecurity obligations applicable to NA operations for the purpose of risk identification and the enhancement and maintenance of the NA Privacy Program, including enterprise-wide privacy policies and procedures, consistent with applicable U.S. and global laws * Partners with NA Privacy Office to manage privacy incident response related to data privacy breaches and related mitigation efforts; responsible for conducting privileged and confidential data breach investigations, which may involve the oversight of outside counsel * Collaborate with the NA Privacy Office through on-going privacy risk assessments, identify areas of potential impact and legal consideration and propose and drive solutions * May conduct privileged and confidential compliance investigations involving privacy and data protection policy violations * Responsible for drafting and negotiating data privacy provisions in contracts with authorized third party vendors, digital health collaboration partners, and other external customers as a subject matter expert in NNI's Legal Department's contracts approval matrix policy * Participate on Company Privacy Steering Committee as legal representative * Liaise with privacy professionals at peer companies and industry organizations * Keeps informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends affecting the company in order to proactively identify risks and mitigating actions, and assists with development of policies and training as needed * May retain, manage and assist outside counsel as needed * Performs other duties as assigned by senior management * Provides legal support with minimal oversight and guidance from managing attorney Physical Requirements 10-20% overnight travel may be required. Qualifications * A Bachelor's degree, JD degree and state bar admission required * 8+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department strongly preferred * Extensive experience advising on and supporting life sciences/pharmaceutical industry privacy matters required * Certification as a Certified Information Privacy Professional highly desired * In-depth knowledge of applicable state, federal and international privacy laws * Demonstrated experience making sound risk assessments, and identifying and resolving legal and regulatory issues quickly and effectively and ability to make real-time decisions * Proven track record as a strong team player with ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure * Ability to work independently, proactively and be pragmatic and results focused * Strong problem-solving skills - demonstrates and exercises creativity and initiative * Strong written and verbal communications skills - able to effectively collaborate and communicate with stakeholders and at all levels of an organization * Novo Nordisk requires all employees, both Field and Office-Based, to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine by November 15, 2021.
