Ascendis Pharma is looking for an experienced Patient Support Director to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing, innovative company!

The Patient Support Director will be responsible for establishing patient service strategy and support programs to ensure patients obtain affordable access to our products, stay on therapy, and have a positive product experience. The Patient Support Director will build our patient support program (PSP) by working with our vendor to operationalize. The role functions as a subject matter expert on patient reimbursement support services and collaborates cross functionally within the commercial organization to design and implement programs that support the company’s patient access objectives.

The position will be based in New Jersey (remote will be considered for the right candidate) and will report directly to the Vice President, Commercial Analytics & Operations.

Key Responsibilities

Develop patient support services strategy and lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of our PSP, ensuring executional excellence with PSP services team Develop project timelines for new and enhanced services and manage through to completion

Develop and maintain program SOPs, business rules, exceptions processes, workflows, scripting, training and reports

Manage vendor performance against contractual arrangements, SOPs, KPIs, and budget

Establish a high-performing Patient Services team by directing vendor efforts, establishing service level expectations, conducting quarterly business review meetings, and providing guidance to the assigned vendor Program Manager

Manage current day-to-day patient access services including PSP services Regular site visits to PSP vendor(s)

Weekly status calls and follow ups with brand teams and PSP vendor

Participation LMR (Legal/Medical/Regulatory) meetings as a patient access expert

Develop and manage copay program and ensure alignment to brand strategies

Achieve brand specific patient access objectives and KPIs at launch and throughout the product lifecycle and ensure that operations are in place to provide optimal reimbursement support at launch

Develop data integration process for the PSP vendor(s) with Commercial Analytics & Operations department and the contracted data aggregator to provide overall organizational alignment and connection to enrolled patients

Develop and track KPIs: Continually assess and monitor impact and execution of access services & offerings, including feedback from service users and internal stakeholders Provide data updates and analysis of copay and PSP programs to stakeholders

Provide monthly data updates and analysis for PSP dashboards to stakeholders

Commission market research projects and refine strategies to help generate insights to create/optimize programs that better meet healthcare professionals (HCP) and patient needs

Evaluate and evolve PSP services, creating efficiencies and improving the customer experience, to drive results aligning to business objectives. Utilize data, insights, and feedback to continuously optimize support services, positioning, and messaging.

Work closely and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including Market Access, Commercial Operations, Training, Marketing, Patient Advocacy, Sales, Compliance, Legal, Medical and Market Analytics along with relevant external customers and stakeholders to ensure best-in-class offerings and services: Ensure PSP operations and execution align with Brand Marketing and Market Access strategies

Collaborate closely with Brand Marketing to ensure a seamless customer experience and alignment with brand initiatives

Provide insight into the development of market access and PSP content, tools, and training for national meetings and customer-facing team training

Serve as key liaison to Training department to support training of field-based staff as well as development and coordination of launch training as it relates to patient access services

Develop compelling tools and programs for use with HCPs and patients to engage them with the services available through PSP, while enhancing the experience, and providing leadership across creative agencies, ePA vendors, e-prescribing vendors, and other partners, as appropriate

Support Field Reimbursement Manager team with strong communication and timely customer service to address customer needs

Negotiate and execute contracts/SOWs and budgets for desired services Serve as PSP budget owner

Represent Patient Services in senior leadership/business review meetings

Lead the evaluation, design and execution of future versions of access support and PSP services based on evolving business priorities, pipeline and patient requirements

Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure all programs meet ASCENDIS legal, regulatory, quality, and compliance standards

Support the annual brand planning process with data driven reimbursement insights

Requirements Bachelor’s Degree required

Advanced degree preferred (i.e. MBA, PharmD) preferred

8+ years of previous experience managing patient and provider support programs

Agency/vendor management experience (operations/business reviews/budgetary oversight)

Strong understanding of the US access environment (commercial and public), including reimbursement support services, payer coverage, reimbursement, pricing, patient support programs, field reimbursement specialists, co-pay support programs, etc.

Demonstrated ability to build and execute on a launch/program plan

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross functional teams is required with a history of leadership, initiative in achieving organizational objectives

Ability to operate in ambiguous situations and determine focused objectives and a clear path forward in the face of open questions

Demonstrated ability to influence others without authority and successfully partner with cross-functional teams

Possess a strong understanding of biologic/specialty pharma market and patient access challenges

Proven history of working and delivering on multiple projects simultaneously, with tight deadlines and changing priorities is required2

Ability to interact and communicate with all levels in the organization

Must be a team player with strong self-awareness and excellent interpersonal skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required – in particular, the ability to summarize results from disparate sources in a concise manner for senior management

Patient-centric and service-oriented mindset

Adaptable and open to an environment of change

Ability to travel 50%

Self-starter. Proactive in nature, actively participates and self-motivated
