Assistant Scientist Kelly Services is currently seeking an Assistant Scientist for a long-term engagement with one of our Global Pharmaceutical clients in Raritan, NJ. This person will join our Kelly FSP (Functional Service Provider) division, a managed solution provider and business unit of Kelly Services, Inc. POSITION SUMMARY: The candidate will perform in vitro experiments, analyze data, records results, and provide interpretations and conclusions as appropriate. Under supervision, the candidate will be expected to set up, operate and maintain laboratory instruments. The candidate will be responsible for performing laboratory experiments and activities supporting clinical programs within the Bacterial Vaccines department. Primary duties will include the qualification and performance of assays associated with full development programs including an Opsonophagocytic Killing (OPK) assay, ELISA / MSD, serological assays for the characterization of bacteria, and toxin neutralization assays. The candidate will perform in vitro assays in support of ongoing clinical trials under Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) conditions and will maintain laboratory records according to GCLP requirements, including the use of a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Duties may also include the preparation of bacterial and tissue culture growth media, the preparation of bacterial isolates and tissue culture cell lines for cryogenic storage, and the propagation of tissue cultures from cryogenic storage.

• A four-year degree in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field is required
• Experience working with Biosafety Level (BSL) II bacterial pathogens is required
• Familiarity with basic microbiology, aseptic technique, and general safe laboratory practices is required.
• Experience with opsonophagocytic killing assays is beneficial
• Familiarity with GCLP or GLP principles is beneficial.
• At least one of the following laboratory skills is beneficial:
  • Familiarity with ELISA procedures.
  • A working knowledge of tissue culture techniques.
  • Laboratory experience in the performance of in vitro assays with clinical materials and the use of LIMS.
