Job Description:

Garden State Growers is a family-owned greenhouse and outdoor production operation on over 500 acres specializing in the growth and distribution of wholesale perennials, annuals, ground cover, vegetables, and varied seasonal offerings. We serve large retailers who sell plants in sizable quantities, as well as garden centers, supermarkets and small retail businesses.

We are currently seeking a yard jockey to assist the Shipping department with outbound and inbound trailers and straight trucks. This includes equipment movement as well as light truck/trailer maintenance. In this role you will need to be a proactive go-getter and be able to handle a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Check incoming and outgoing trailers for any damages and dead batteries.
• Keep all lift gates charged, ensuring they're ready for the road.
• Complete daily inspections, including checks on tires and fluids.
• Maintain vehicle registration and insurance.
• Conduct minor repairs (change lights, fuses, etc.).
• Notify the department management of existing, and/or potential problems.
• Safely and efficiently move equipment around the yard, ensuring it's ready for the road.
• Remain in constant communication with department management.
• Perform other related duties, as assigned. Requirements
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Experience in driving multiple axle vehicles is a plus but not required.
  • Must be able to work additional weekday hours and Saturdays to meet the demands of the business during the busy season.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, lift and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Follow all safety and operational requirements.
