Job Description:
The New Jersey Attorney Generals office is looking for an
attorney with supervisory experience to function as a Section Chief
for the Administrative Practice Group Environmental Permitting and
Counseling Section in Trenton, NJ. The position will be appointed
as a Deputy Attorney General 1 with a salary between $116,045.41
and $162,458.13 per year. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Attorney
General has broad oversight of the states legal and law enforcement
matters. As the head of the Department of Law & Public Safety, the
Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and
Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement
officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants.
ABOUT THE DIVISION: The Division of Law (DOL) serves as primary
legal counsel for New Jersey state government. Generally speaking,
this work takes three forms: by providing legal advice to the
states departments and agencies, by defending the state in civil
litigation, and by bringing civil lawsuits against individuals,
corporations, and other entities that violate the law and harm New
Jersey and its residents. Staffed by nearly 500 attorneys, DOLs
responsibilities cover a broad swath of legal issues, including
those involving banking, child protection, corrections, education,
environmental, finance, health, insurance, taxation, and
transportation matters. ABOUT THE SECTION:The Environmental
Permitting and Counseling Section provides general legal counsel
and representation to the Department of Environmental Protection
and other State agencies and commissions whose responsibilities
include protection of the environment. These agencies include the
Department of Agriculture, New Jersey Meadowlands Commission and
Pinelands Commission. The types of matters handled include appeals
of final agency decisions and regulations, real estate
transactions, formal advice, contracts and public bidding, open
public records, and trial court and administrative defense of
permitting decisions by these agencies. The section also provides
legal counsel to its clients with respect to the issuance and
denials of permits and the promulgation of regulations. The
substantive areas involved include air pollution, water resources,
solid waste, parks and forestry, fish and game, land use, shore
protection and public access, green acres, and farmland
preservation. ABOUT THE POSITION: Under direction of the Assistant
Attorney General and Deputy Director of the Division of Law, or
other supervisory officials within the Department of Law & Public
Safety will: Supervise the work of the section, which provides
legal counsel and representation to the Department of Environmental
Protection and other State agencies and commissions whose
responsibilities include protection of the environment;Oversight of
all aspects of transactional matters and counseling and advice
assignments;Supervise the work of the Assistant Section Chiefs and
will be responsible for the overall operation and administration of
the section, including file reviews;Participate in the evaluation
of all Deputy Attorneys General in the section;Conducts case file
reviews;Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited law school
with a Juris Doctor.Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in
the State of New Jersey is required.Five (5) years of experience as
a practicing attorney, two (2) year of which shall have been in a
supervisory capacity. OTHER KEY FACTORS: Appointees will be
required to possess a driver's license valid in New
Jersey.Candidates should submit a supplemental document, included
